Make the most of broadband - more free workshops for residents and businesses

Whether you use the Internet for boosting your business, downloading your favourite songs, defeating zombies and gaming or streaming TV and film, faster broadband will make being online easier, as well as safer.

Around £20million is being invested by Nottinghamshire County Council, its partners, the Government and BT to facilitate the expansion of a new digital infrastructure in order to improve these figures by 2015/16.

A fourth programme of free workshops is taking place throughout the county in September, as the Superfast Broadband for Nottinghamshire campaign continues to gather speed.

Subjects covered by the September workshops include an introduction to using Social Media (Twitter and Facebook); how to use LinkedIn and YouTube to boost business, plus sessions on selling safely online, email marketing, Pinterest and blogging.

Rupert Aikman of Healthy Eating Solutions attended our previous Twitter workshop and told us: “I found the workshop extremely useful and I’m implementing various tips I learnt at the presentation. A few things I changed immediately were to update my Twitter profile and banner, set up lists and increase my number of daily Tweets. This is not the end of the changes I intend to make, just the beginning.”

Everyone is welcome to participate in the Superfast Broadband Workshops, whether they have already attended or not&46; Free refreshments and parking are available at each event, with all attendees entered into a prize draw to win one of the latest iPad© tablets.

A Twitter account @superfastnotts has been created to allow followers to keep up to date with the latest information on workshops and delivery of the Superfast Broadband for Nottinghamshire project in general. You can also visit to book directly onto future events.

Councillor Diana Meale, Chair of the Economic Development Committee at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “Faster broadband is on its way to everyone in Nottinghamshire, so it’s really important that businesses and residents are ready to take advantage of the opportunities it will bring.”

Superfast Broadband will help foster news ways of working and better collaboration within businesses. It will supercharge home entertainment, allowing individuals to access a range of multimedia services across a growing array of devices. We will look back at 2013 in the future and wonder how we ever coped with the speeds of the day!
